The premise: An RV full of daters went one by one on dates with a stranger who could at any time call “next” to get a new person to date. For every minute the date lasted, the dater earned a dollar, which they got to keep if they got “nexted. Why it was so wild: The daters’ personal facts were iconic , and the premise was essentially Tinder with a financial-incentive twist. The one true highlight was the terrible daters, who, admittedly, made for great reality TV — but where was the love?
The premise: Each episode, a contestant met with three moms who would try to convince them to date her child. At the end of the episode and based solely on the dates with the moms, the contestant would choose which mother’s child to date. Why it was so wild: Okay, I will start by admitting I laugh every time I see a picture of the moms lined up on the beach like they’re on a late-season episode of The Middle-Aged Bachelor.
Beyond that, let me just say: Hometowns are only one episode on The Bachelor for a reason, folks! The premise: Parents who hated their child’s significant other chose for them two new romantic prospects. The child would then go on dates with these prospects and decide at the end whether they would stay with their current S. They almost always chose the person they were already dating.
Why it was so wild: Most families on teen- or young adult—centered shows in the s needed some serious family counseling. Parental Control was no exception.

Watch the trailer. This dating show sets up two people on a blind date on a cruise ship for three days. The editing is humorous but not overdone with jokes. For the most part the lame daters provide more than enough entertainment. The three days are condensed into a half hour psychological experiment. The couples almost always get along well the first day, but later there is often the friction that comes from spending too much time with someone.
Chris Hardwick’s dead-pan humor is perfect for the show. The show is obviously for entertainment sake, and he doesn’t try to take himself or the show too seriously. His humor is witty and not overdone, and he also has the perfect minimal on screen time as the show is not about him but about the lame daters.

During each episode of the daily half-hour series, cameras follow two complete strangers on a three-day, two-night romantic getaway to tropical hot spots. In its first season Shipmates delivered some of the sexiest and funniest moments on television. Season two promises an even more eclectic group of participants, including a former NFL cheerleader who gets into a wrestling match with a fitness trainer from Fresh Meadows, a cop who takes a beautiful nutritionist swimming with sting rays and a stockbroker who wins the heart of a sexy kindergarten teacher.

Sign In. Shipmates — Hide Spoilers. Davy Boy 16 September The producers of “Shipmates” are absolute geniuses. Or maybe they aren’t. Either way, Shipmates is an awesome example of how to produce a dating show. On other similar shows, the “contestants” are set up and filmed over a matter of hours. The difference is that Shipmates takes place over 3 days.
It is my contention that NO 2 complete strangers can spend every minute of 3 days together and come out the other side with anything but disdain for each other. This is the brilliance of Shipmates.
